Replacing my transmission

After about 2.5 years, the transmission of my Seltos started acting up. it's jerky at low speeds and heating up in traffic. i was told that the clutch is toast and getting replaced this week.

I have a question though. if the factory transmission didn't last, how long will the replacement hold up? Warranty won't cover it forever and Kia here in Vancouver won't offer an extended warranty just for the clutch.

Anybody else deal with this? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I think it's a valid concern, if the factory clutch didnt last, its hard to say how long the replacement will hold up, especially with city traffic putting extra stress on DCTs. I know some Seltos owners have had clutches replaced not just once, while others get decent life with careful driving. Without extended warranty options, it really comes down to how its driven, light throttle and avoiding heavy stop-and-go can help it last a bit longer. You're definitely not the only one dealing with this

The original clutch didn't make it past 2.5 years, there's a good chance the replacement won't be much better unless they've updated the part or the software and unfortunately, without extended coverage, I dont know man

Yeah agree with @partyfreak, if the first one failed that quick, better be thinking twice about the replacement too. Try driving it easy in traffic and see if they at least updated the part design or software.

Have you had the transmission serviced since you got it? The most common reason for transmissions failing, unless you're driving a Nissan with the cvt which is terrible from the factory, is poor maintenance, so that could be the problem. With that said, a couple of years isn't' too terrible, unless you've driven your Kia to the moon and back.
