KIA Seltos check engine...advice?

Brother's 2021 Seltos SX turbo just had a CEL after refueling at that sketchy gas station near our place. He checked the cap and restarted, light stayed on. You think we should try disconnecting the battery or get a scanner?

Sounds like the gas station might have caused a loose seal or vapor issue. I would skip disconnecting the battery and grab a scanner instead to read the code. Usually, if its just the gas cap, clearing the code after a drive fixes it.

Thanks for the advice, which makes sense. I'll tell my brother to forget the battery and find a scanner instead. Are those cheap scanners online any good for just reading a code like this?
